Pitbull Secure Gateway smarthost SMTP relay layer delivers traffic from your server through a secure relay. SMTP AUTH, domain-based TLS policies, STARTTLS fallback and relay IP / customer synchronization maintain delivery quality.

Smarthost SMTP relay

Smarthost SMTP Relay is the product face of Pitbull Secure Gateway outbound relay support. Outbound traffic from Exim, Postfix, cPanel and Plesk servers is routed to the Pitbull relay address and delivered after passing outbound filtering and rate limit layers.

Relay configuration

  • MTA integration via smarthost / relayhost (3-5 minutes)
  • SMTP AUTH authentication and TLS encryption
  • Domain-based TLS policies and STARTTLS fallback control
  • SPF, DKIM and DMARC signatures preserved

Relay IP & customer synchronization

Relay IP pool is synchronized with customer and domain records. Outbound traffic is processed with correct policy scope and log separation.

Outbound integration

With Outbound Filtering: rate limit and abuse control first, then secure relay delivery. DSN / backscatter suppression and BATV reduce unnecessary return traffic.

How it works

  1. 1 Set smarthost/relayhost address to the Pitbull relay server in Exim or Postfix configuration.
  2. 2 Obtain SMTP AUTH credentials from the Pitbull customer portal and configure on your MTA.
  3. 3 Enable TLS connection; use port 587 (submission) or 465 (SMTPS).
  4. 4 Include Pitbull relay IPs in your SPF record.
  5. 5 Send a test email to verify delivery report and relay logs.
